Founded by a science fiction writer; secretive and indoctrinating. It's highly controversial due to its high profile 'members' like Tom Cruise and also the fact it hierarchy (and your position in it) is established by your monetary donations to the Church. Their beliefs are wacky to say the least, 'Lord Xenu' intergalactic ruler, spirits, see this video. To be honest I think it's one of the things the make me think "Thank fuck I don't live in America".
