YSMenu on R4III

I'm very new to this but have pretty good computer skill so I tired setting up the YSmenu on my R4III, after following all the instructions from the guide I could not get it to work. A friend of mine let me take his already put together files and try them but it still didn't work. Are there any original files from my R4III that I need to keep? I have been searching around the forums to try and solve the problem but I can't figure it out and would really appreciate some pointers on what I might be messing up. Thanks.

What guide are you using? I heard you have to do it differently for different types of R4...

YSMenu doesn't run well on R4 clones.

Is that what the III in R4III stands for? The third clone in the line of R4's?

No, I it's just a cheap clone that they label as "R4" so you think it's actually made by the same people as the origional R4DS. They haven't made those for quite a while.
