Xbox accident kills boy of 11+hung
M
A boy aged 11 is believed to have accidentally hanged himself while playing with his XBox.
Callum Stockley died while playing in his room on Monday night, and was allegedly found suspended from the top of his bunk bed.
Friends and neighbours claimed the boy accidentally became tangled up in the XBox cable as he jumped from the bed when his mother, Stephanie, called him downstairs.
He was airlifted to University Hospital in Coventry but died before he arrived.
Yesterday a friend of the family in Exhall Green, Coventry, said: 'It is just an appalling tragedy.
'Apparently Callum was sitting on his bunk-bed playing with his Xbox when somehow he got the cable wrapped around his neck.
'It looks like he accidentally hanged himself. The family are absolutely shattered by what has happened.'
Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, added: 'The word is that it was a tragic accident.
'I heard a police officer say Callum got the wire snagged round his neck and he couldn't reach the ground with his feet.'
The accident happened just before 8pm on Monday as Callum played on his games console on the top bunk of his bed.
Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Warwickshire Air Ambulance were unable to resuscitate him.
A spokeswoman for the Nuneaton and Bedworth Coroner confirmed his death and said: 'There was no third party involvement. We are treating this as a tragic death.'
Anne Perry, headteacher of St Giles Junior School where Callum was a pupil, said: 'Callum was a lovely little boy who was friendly to everyone around school.
'We are devastated to hear this tragic news and our thoughts and prayers go out to Callum's family. We will miss him immensely.'
Since the accident hundreds of mourners have left tributes to the popular school boy on his Facebook page.
One friend wrote: 'Such a tragic loss at such a young age.'
'You may have been taken from this bad world Callum but the memories of you will always live on in everyone that knew you.
'My heart goes out to your family, no words can describe such a tragic loss.
R.I.P mate, sleep tight and let the angels look after you now.'
One teacher at St Giles Junior School described him as 'a role model student'.
She wrote: 'I can't believe this. St Giles has lost one of its role model students. Such a sad loss to us all.'
Another friend said: 'You will always be in our heart, you won't EVER be forgotten.
'You are our army buddie. I have known you since nursery and I remember your birthday parties, your smile, your dream to be in the army.
'I'll remember your laugh, you were such a nice friend to everyone and you made everyone laugh.'
Warwickshire Police are treating the death as 'unexplained'.
A post mortem is expected to take place this week and an inquest will be opened and adjourned next week.

...I wonder what xbox controller is at fault?
I almost laughed at this.

That's really sad....but the thought of the XBOX being in jail made laugh a little.

I'm guessing the wired one, don't ask me how I know... it's just a fucking hunch.
Oh and it's perfectly normal to laugh at the death of the child, I mean, it's not like he had his whole life to look forward to. You tosser. What happened to your whole 'all life is sacred' bullshit? Again, you're a tosser.

I laughed at the thought of the controller, not the kid.

I think its perfectly feasible to think the Wireless Controller strangled the poor kid.
Also, this is a terrible story, so sad just thinking about it.

Am I the only one wondering how the hell you can get tangled in a wired 360 controller and hang yourself? The wire would have to be tied to something before hand so that the cord doesn't just fall out of it's USB port or the trip prevention thing Xbox has, or pull over the Xbox.
L
yeah that's a bit odd. I've got a lot of consoles with wired controllers and none of them would hold a controller in against someone's weight.

They just fly off a shelf, I mean for it to hang someone, you'd need the wire to be son incredibly tangled up in the bed post in such a way that it stays there and can carry the kid. And I see little way how it can be tangled that bad.
Hell, even Xbox's have a break away for the cable, that way it doesn't pull of the 360 from a shelf.

maybe it the console was screwed on the base and the controller was super glued to the controller...Did they considered foul play? I remember someone telling me that if i don't stop playing with the ps that they would feed it to me... so maybe the mother was pissed off at the son and strangled him with the controller? it far fetched but investigator should consider every angle.

Wait! He was on his bunk bed with a cord wrapped around his neck... how? Is he a feather? How did the Xbox controller not get unplugged by his weight?

Oh lord. I feel awful for smiling over that.
In all seriousness, though : Poor thing... terribly sad this happened to such a young child. Terrible it happened to a kid in general.
Also, I'm pretty sure no one here is really that big of an ass to laugh at the death of a kid. ::)

My condolences to the family. I can't imagine it was the happiest family as it was considering how hung up the kid got on the games.

ReiderMy condolences to the family. I can't imagine it was picture-perfect considering how hung up the kid got on the games.
I guess the kid just wanted to hang out by himself.

Might of just been a case of his so-called friends going off somewhere and leaving him hanging as well.
T
The kid must've been pretty wired to have an Xbox in his own room.

God, you guys are horrible, you just can't get your feet on the ground with these puns....

Welp, unless you want to die early, you've just gotta lighten up, y'know?

What a tangled mess this kid got himself into
R
Yes, and we seem to be getting rather tied up in this thread too.Probably should be careful from now on so we don't get hung up on this.

maybe the wire was wrapped around the bedpost a couple of times, that would be strong enough to hang an 11 year old. what would he weigh? 50kg?
