I started experiencing an issue recently where cmd.exe fails to "start" upon a full system shutdown. My usual, initial reaction was "Virus Alert~!". So I did a full system scan, but to no avail as the scan showed no virii present. So I next did a scan with "Malwarebytes" thinking the next possible cause, malware. But still nothing.I was about to whip out the "last resort (combofix) before the final resolution (a full reformat)" when I came upon these forum discussions on the net:https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=163000.0 <- Avast!'s web forum.http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/cmdexe-error-0xc0000142/21efc574-3279-441b-b3fd-005e46914564?page=3 <- Microsoft Answers board.https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/796076/geforce-experience-causing-command-exe-error-on-restart-of-windows-7/?offset=7 <- Nvidia's boards. And as it turns out, the problem is caused by an incompatibility or stability between an update for Nvidia's GeForce Experience app and one for a Microsoft Windows update. What a hassle~! :PAt least I don't have to use combofix nor nuke my files with a reformat :DWay to go Microsoft and Nvidia :PRFE: Addendum:So according to this article...http://www.anandtech.com/show/8782/win7-driver-issues-microsoft-amd-recommend-uninstalling-kb3004394.. all I needed to do is to uninstall that one update.
