Why do people judge games by it's graphics?

You know what's worse than graphics whores? People who complain about graphics whores. They take it way too far. They try as hard as they can to move to the opposite polarity of the graphics whores that they themselves become closed-minded, acting like good graphics are a NEGATIVE thing, as though a REQUIREMENT for a good game is bad graphics.Never in the history of video games have good graphics EVER been a negative thing. Pretty graphics are always, always good in every circumstance. Do graphics decide everything? No, of course not, the important part of a game is whether or not it's fun. But graphics DO matter to an extent. Some games' graphics are so bad that it makes me cringe while playing, deterring me from the actual experience.Is it possible for a game with bad graphics to be good? Yes. Do good graphics = bad game? NO! So quit your whining because you're just as bad as the graphics whores.

The people forgot that their so called bad graphics WERE the most great ended graphics back in the early 90's
People prefer games as Final Fantasy, I mean the old ones as 1, 2 and 3, these style of games, well, they forgot that in the back days they were the greatest graphics, which make 'em graphic whores too, in a certainly way.
Back in 97 Resident Evil Director's Cut was one of the most perfect games in graphic quality, today isn't the best for sure.
The world in all means is evoluting, so the technology too as well, keep focused in the past technologies is something I'd like to avoid.
I see many complaining about Crysis, that is just graphics and thing, well I PARTICULARY think it is a cool game, have some good things.

you have to remember too, there are games that didnt have great graphics. Metal gear solid (PSX) was not a game that had the best graphics for the console,even at that time but it was still one of the best games for the psx

I'd never played tales of phantasia until recently but I love the game.
The graphics are absolute shite compared to modern games but I don't even notice if the game is good.

People are saying gameplay is more important.

yeah, but the one-line loop of it gets annoying after a bit. It's the ONLY audio in the whole game.as far as the topic, grafixwrores and retrofags both miss out on great games.

You know I wonder this too.A lota poeple I know nag about graphics this graphics that.Hell, I pulled out soma my favorite PSX games 4th o July and my nephew and cousin were like OMG THESE OLD GRAPHICS!

The newer generations tend to look towards what looks nice, attractive, and the dazzling of colors within the special effects. This would otherwise be very enticing and propelling to give all of the viewer's undivided attention to his or her sense of style.

funny thing is, My nephew and cousin are older than me. lol. Then again, the newest thing I have is a Wii.They have a PS3...

Having a DS or Wii as your fist choice of console is pretty much proof that you are not a graphics whore.

Maybe you just prefer nintendo's games.

Guys dont get me wrong, but this isnt the 1990's. Although game play is the most important aspect when it comes to my gaming enjoyment, good graphics are a must also.
...Its 2010 guys, there is nothing wrong with demanding better visuals. Its 2010, its possible you know?...
I still play old school games but i get tired of them primarily because the graphics get repetitive(& also the fact that there aren't as many features).And its not just the graphics, its the voice acting and music too.But my biggest priority is a bugless game(as little as possible).
I went through this horrific experience when i was about idk... 15 with a game called Gothic 3. The developers rushed the release hence resulting in an unfinished, bug ridden game that was practically impossible to finish since main quest characters randomly died due to the bugs -_-.(years later the game was finally decent after the final community patch)
Since then i learnt my lesson not to waste money & thats when i turned to piracy.My priorities in a game are:
1. bugs
2. game play +story
3. graphics
4. music/sound

I play mainly console games and retro games so bugs aren't an issue for me.
Your list is good though.

Btw as for all those people complaining about the "new generation of gamers" caring more about graphics rather than gameplay;
Times change people. What do you think appeals more to a young audience?
In depth story and advanced tactics?....-_-
Colours/visuals appeal to younger audiences, but over time the young audience grows up and requires more challenging material, hence they will prefer gameplay apposed to graphics being ontop of their list.Thats my theory.(obviously im not saying the entire young generation prefers graphics)
