Why do people judge games by it's graphics?

I just buy my daughter what she asks for, I wouldn't risk getting it wrong.

This is where you're argument caves in on itself :PIF you ARE indeed an Adult (or parent) who grew up as a gamer, wouldn't you be more sensitive to which games are good or bad based on your own experiences growing up?

Now this is an example of a good gamer parent, he listens to what his child likes/wants to play :)Of course I'm betting that msg does take into consideration if the game would be age appropriate for his kid, but still him considering what his daughter likes is what's best.One positive outcome this will have is that if his daughter gets bored of the game, the fault will be purely put on her own choice, not msg's.

hehe you missed the sarcasm in my post-the next gen of children ( our children ) will benefit from parents with gaming knowledge, but the current kids suffer ignorant parents.being a ds lover, im definitely not a graphics whore, though i do appreciate great games that sport it-just look at how beautiful the castlevania games are, they say stop and smell the roses, sometimes i just walk through dracula's castle, admiring the different sprite animations, and cascading backgrounds. the castlevania series is a modern work of art.Take mario kart ds, the gameplay is flawless (though snaking and blue shell dodging are in question) AND the graphics are stunning-Then again, some of my favorite games (planet puzzle league, picross/3d etc) are not visually stunning, but without PPL i don't think i would have even BOUGHT a DS. Tetris attack is just THAT good./ramble

the general concensus of thinking is that a step-up means it's better. so when we apply this thinking to games, it is logical to say that the game with the better graphic is better then the one without better graphics because it's a step-up. this is why people judge games by graphics.look at games on the wii as opposed to the ps3/360 and the psp to the ds. they will say that one is better then the other because there are better graphics. but they are the same. a good example of a wii vs 360/ps3 graphic comparison is geometry wars. one would say the ps3/360 version is better then the wii because it's in hd. a good example of ps3 vs 360 graphics is bayonetta. it's the same game. on the psp vs ds, you can compare final fantasy games, how one is like the ps2 while the other is like the ps1.in the end, it's the one thing you'll notice immediately when you compare them together. but this is goind to die because graphics has reached a saturation point. this is why we're still using dx 9 because frankly it's good enough. look at sound, it went from bleeps to bips and now we have full complex sound. no one cares if it's in higher modes in sound. the same will happen for graphics.i always like how people would show comparison pictures such as this one,

and point out the various differences. but there is a problem that most don't even realize and i'll leave that for everyone to figure out on their own.

Imagine what a next generation gamer would thinkThe graphics would be an eye candy. Since no matter what, the first thing we see and notice with our eyes, are the graphics.

Graphics will always get better to the point where it looks real.

Its like anything else, if you stop developing somebody else will best your product.
Everything improves all the time because nobody wants 2nd best, like it or not, thats what will happen.
Who wouldn't want to play a game say - modern warefare where its like watching a film from a 1st person view. It would be awesome.
There will always be a place for other "lesser" graphics in different genres though.

People now these days only care about blood and guts that look really realistic. People knock mario? I thought those games were loved by everyone.
Mario 3 must be one of the most fun games ever made, mario world also is great for a couple hours of properly good entertainment even now. In fact especially now!
Too many cutscenes nowadays.

Trolls, yes, but there are a lot of people who do hate Mario in general though. Why here on RomUlation we have Remnoca & Calvin_0 who are admitted Mario haters. Me on the other hand just hated his voice actor, but still love the games so very much.
