What to reformat to with an sd card?

I have a TTDS which freezes when loading a game. So I think I need to reformat it. What format do I need to format it to. FAT or FAT32. Thanks in advance.

I've heard FAT16 works better for 2GB Cards and FAT36 for 4GB or higher
