What is the meaning behind "We made you"?

I was listening to the song the other day. I understand how it is basically making fun of celebrities, but I don't get the meaning of the "we made you" part. Any thoughts?

without the general public they would not be famous.

That is what I was one of the things I was tossing in my head. Probably the best one.
