The Unofficial Windows 7 Discussion Thread

Discuss everything about Windows 7 here. Whether you like the beta or not, how you like the new taskbar, does it improve on Vista's mistakes, can it beat XP, etc.Personally, I haven't installed 7 on any of my computers yet, so I don't really have any opinion on it yet. However, an Ars Technica review states that it's looking good, but IE8 is a load of horseshit.

I downloaded the beta and installed it on virtualbox, and it was kinda cool. I haven't used vista much to compare it to it, but i've heard it supposedly is better than vista.I'll have to install it onto a machine properly to see whether or not its that good, cos through virtualbox i can only give it so much of my ram, and video ram etc.I'll post what i think of it fully installed on a machine later, but so far it seems pretty good.

Well b4 i wiped my computer and deleted the RAID to fix the friggin thing in decided to install windows 7 beta for a few days...
instal was grand under an hour and it looks sweet.the interface is quick and tidy and yes the toolbar is like the mac one which is an improvement.
Support for high capacity RAM is included (you may have noticed but b4 sp1 vista home editions could only use 3GB Ram at most even wen u shelled out for 4)
the speed of my computer as a whole went up so much from vista file transfer speeds were crazy from 20mb/s on vista to 35mb/s!
I would have left win7 on but its still a lil buggy and not 100% compatible but its early in beta and itll only get better.
My next computer will definately be a windows 7 i advise it to everyone wen its fully released.

It's the Vista that never was... lol. Anyways, I was surprised at how well it worked on an otherwise crap laptop. Uses less than 50% of 1 GB RAM when idle, which is about 200 MB better than Vista . Aero worked smoothly for me, so there were no complaints there. Transfer speeds are WAY better. My only gripe is the compatibility problems it gives me when running some old games I have. I'm optimistic it'll be solved when the full version comes around.

I think that Windows 7 will be beat the Xp and Vista...
While using Windows 7,you feel smooth than Vista...and better graphics...
And If u got more RAM(maybe 1gb),its speed like a XP and more graphics(Vista don't)

1 GB of RAM isn't really much anymore. That's actually the minimum requirement for Vista in Aero.

Microsoft just announced Windows 7 will be available in 6 different SKUs.
IMO, that's pathetic. Three would've been enough: A Basic one for Netbooks and "emerging markets", a Home one for most users and a Professional/Business one for businesses, etc. The only reason they have the Starter and Basic editions is so they can justify charging more for the Premium and Ultimate editions. However, I have tried the Beta and it seems really good so far, it runs smoothly and it's very fast. So at least they're doing something right. ;D

Heh if I was in the position to HAVE to use the Starter or Basic version, I'd rather go for Ubuntu Linux and use WINE for compatibility with general Windows apps if needed than use that...that...atrocity versions of Windows.Otherwise, people who won't go legal will just have to be very quick to download the illegal copies off the net before Microsoft cleans it up (like Madonna did when her albums appeared on the net)btw anyone knows on how many CDs or DVDs will Windows 7 come when it's released?

Judging by the beta, it'll still be on 1 DVD. Although you could always slim it down to fit on a single CD just like they did with TinyVista :) .
