The Best 64-bit System?
S
What do you think the best 64-bit system is and why?I prefer the N-64 becuase I'm a Nintendo Fanboy and it had lots of awesome games like SSB and StarFox64.

I LOVE me some N64.What's even better is that I can play it on almost every system I have except NDS of course. :P

Yeah, thats a real bummer that it isn't strong enough.
It seems with all the extra size they added the the DSiXL they would be able to do some hardware updates too. Although, sadly, I have heard nothing so far.

Same as the DSi. :P
But the Playstation had some pretty good games.
S
Yeah, it would probably be my second choice.

This topic is only gonna be about the nintendo 64, as they only other 64bit system was the atari jaguar, which...frankly looked like crap and had only a handful of good titles. Why, what other systems did you think were 64bit?(I'd say the ds, but loonylion tells us it's 16bit...don't know how that works but I'll leave it at that)
L
I think the sega saturn was 64 bit offhand.personally my favourite is the AMD 64bit series.

WHat do you mean by off hand?
And...I thought it was a 32bit console like the playstation was.
N
well there was only 2 64 bit systems, the nintendo 64 and the atari jaguar wich i say it wasnt 64 bit

It was listed as 64bit, but a rather weak 64bit...Ive actually played one of these things...only 1 good game on it....
Alien vs predator, yup they made an fps of that on this console made by the people who made the current one on consoles, as well as the classic pc one's we know and love :)
N
lol the only game i played on atari jaguar was doom lol
L
if you want to get technical the N64 wasnt 64 bit either.sega saturn had two 32bit processors, making it equally 64bit as the N64
N
sega saturn is the best hehehe i love it

man...that confuses the hell outta me :(
Why do they claim it was 64bit when it supposedly wasn;t?
L
Funnily enough, the atari jaguar actually had the most claim to being 64bit. It had 5 processors, two were 64 bit, two were 32bit and one was 16 bit. All the buses and memory were 64 bit. N64 and sega saturn actually had two identical 32bit processors (saturn actually had 3, though only 2 were identical) and were called 64 bit.

But most games were weak...even the alien vs predator game used a heavy amout of sprites...
Did they just under use the power or something in the arecture that prevented it from being as good as the n64?
N
well sega saturn is integrated in the category of 32 bit,if you saiy it had 2 32 bit processors why sega used only 32 bit of it,all the games looked inferior to ps1 grafics!
L
processor has nothing to do with graphics. thats the domain of the graphics engine.

So why did the jaguar get games that looked worse than 32bit at times?
L
probably under developed games, it was a very complex system
