Secret of Mana walking speed?

While watching a video of someone playing secret of mana and comparing it to the one I'm playing on a rom, I noticed their characters moved much faster. They run while my characters walk except when going around a corner when suddenly the npc suddenly runs really fast to me. There is a dash button, but it only let's me go in the direction I'm running and needs to recharge after use.I'm quite perplexed at this as to why I'm stuck on walking speed for this. Anyone know what might be wrong? Is it the emulater or my rom possibly?

they're probably running the game on an emulator at an above normal speed. I have the real game and its only walking speed as far as I know.

Yes they're running the game at normal speed. I know the trick they're doing to move a bit quicker. What you do is dash in short distances, try dashing only in a few miliseconds. Then let go off the button so the dash button's timer can recharge faster. Look at their characters' powerbars (bottom part of the screen) you'll see these percentage numbers filling up 100% fast, that's because they make short dashes, turn a bit then short dashes again.

I guess I'll give it a try, but it still looks like they're moving faster than me.
