RapidShare's NEW Uploading Protocol. (Effective 10-23-2008)

The following is series of major changes that RapidShare has implemented. For Premium Users
Download volumes included in a Premium Account is going to be reduced from 10 Gigabyte a day to 80 Gigabyte a month, at continuous exact daily pro rata billing. The sum of accumulated download-traffic is going to be reduced from 50 Gigabyte to 10 Gigabyte. Personal web storage space is going to continue to be set to 500 Gigabyte. The changes only apply to new Premium Account and extension.Existing Accounts are not affected, aside that due to the change of 10 Gigabyte maximum accumulated traffic, no download volume can be transferred from one day to another. As it is technically not possible to work with various procedures, we have compensated all existing Premium users 50 Gigabyte of traffic volume to their TrafficShare quota. This balance does not expire, as long as you own the Premium Account. You can flexibly apply this quota for your own downloads, should your download balance have run out. The system then automatically allocated traffic in 1 Gigabyte packages from the TrafficShare quota.
Anonymous Uploads
It is not the price model only that we have shaped up for the future. A further change is going to effect a small number of users that neither upload their files through a Premium- or Collector’s Account. Files that are stored completely anonymous can now only be downloaded 10 times. Thereafter an error message will appear. However, the file can be moved into a Collector’s- or Premium Account afterwards so that downloading is possible again.
Error Example of an upload that has been downloaded 10 times:

160 million files have already been uploaded to RapidShare. A number that proves, that the world depends on moving important data from A to B. A number that also proves, that RapidShare with its fast and easy services also addresses users that are no computer nerds.
RapidShare is the first technology worldwide that made sending big files so easy, so fast and so secure. The files can be stored as long as needed and can be recalled from anywhere in the world, they are strictly confidential and can only be accessed by the user that originally loaded them up, or alternatively can be distributed among thousands of people quickly and easily.
With a couple of billion page impressions per day we know, that we as a leader will have to pave the way for this new technology. We are aware of the fact that we therefore have big responsibility. If, for example, it had been regulated by law to control all copies before the first photo copier was invented, it is very likely that these machines would have never hit the market. That's why we are doing everything to enable this new technology - which is still very young, but already inspires millions of people every day - to be part of our future and make life more comfortable.
The security of personal data is very important to us, especially in these times. That's the reason why we will not spy out the files that our clients faithfully upload onto RapidShare, not now nor in future. We are against upload control and guarantee you that your files are safe with us and will not be opened by anyone else than yourself, unless you distribute the download link. RapidShare, of course, is against the distribution of illegal files and as soon as we are informed about illegal distribution, we delete these files and put them on a filter. But the general control of uploads is out of the question for us, because we think that especially in these times data privacy comes first.

Premium changes: If I'm understanding this correctly, it's not such an absurd change; I have no qualms.
Anonymous changes: Fine; if you plan on distributing, you should get a free user account anyways, at least.
Upload changes: Very, very, nice.

yeah I'm not too buggered about this either. I can do plenty of downloading still.

80GB a month? So what if you sign-up for a 2 (or is it 3 day?) premium account?Exactly why I hate RapidShare. There are so many better alternatives and some of them are completely free with no restrictions like miHD for example.

But it has no content. :)Also I'd assume you'd then get 80 / days_in_month GB to download. I don't see what's unfair?

RapidShare has really gone downhill recently. It's just too hard for free users to download and the premium accounts are full of restrictions, making them bad value for money.

Do you live under a rock? Rapidshare has definitely been changing for the better recently. The restrictions are completely realistic, and there's no more cats/dogs for free users. :P

well my account tells me that i will still be cedited 10gb per day till till the date it is due to run out!and as lately as i've download the full 10gb a day it now allows me to use the 60gb transfer thingy as a top up if i go over. but then i do need to stop as i have DL'ed about 100gb in the last 10 days and i only have a 40gb DL limit

No I don't live under a rock and no it hasn't been changing for the better. The speed which I now get from RS is much worse:that's why I said it's harder for free users. And, the only thing that's changed for the better for free users is the removal of captchas, which weren't such a big issue anyway.

i noticed with free uploading that if more than 10 downloads are done on your free upload it cancels the thing, caus ei tried downloading something from it by a free account upload and it said more than 10 downloads has been done so now the link was deactivated, anyone else seen this, thats a little messed up.

If you download enough from RS that you're so bothered by it's restrictions, stop bitching and get a premium account. They're fairly cheap.

Did you not read my previous posts? I said the premium accounts are full of restrictions, that's why I'm not getting one.

you cant expect everything to be free in the internet... T_Tthey still do have to pay for stuff and stuff they need to pay with...besides... look at romulation... they give off points to *limit* downloads...even if we are members, there are still restrictions...but you still consider ROMUlation as the best rom site ever...
