If you buy one brand new-it may be 5.03 to the latest-5.51.
All firmwares have thier exploits-but the most easiest to hack is "5.03"...
If you buy from dedicated game shops I have a suggestion...
If your not a regular-ask to try a psp "because your new to them" and check the firmware...
Next day, come by-and trade in XD
Their is an exploint for 5.51-which requires medal of honour heros 2-but no idea how that works...
Also-the 3000 can't be perma-hacked-only temporary hacking that disapperas with a system shutdown, called chickHEN...
I have a guide in the tutorials section if you wish to use-first one on the list-follow the prompts and you shall be fine :)
Currently helping a user here with 3000 hacking-he had 4.20 firmware...
So I'd say 4.20 and up-check around-if you have 5.51 you may have a chance with an exploit-but not sure if that works on 3000 models...
Hoped I helped-2000 user you see :)

Then you can-but not permenently...
check my tutorial-see bottom link-idiot proof way of getting it to run...but once those files are on it-you CAN'T use picture folder-and you CAN'T delete the files-they are needed to run it.
Plus you need to use sytandby instead of a full power down...otherwise you need to repeat the start up process which is a pain-I can help if you wish via pm :)

Anyway, now you can use PSP Decrypter v.4 to play games that required OFW 5.55 and 6.00 (just like me...)btw, I'm PSP 3000 user, too...
