How do these work? Thanks to gran turismo 5 I gotten curious how they install, sure Im downloading something but does it just go over the existing install (if applicable, some games dont have installs but patches anyway)?Mainly because my 120gb is full of nothing but game installs...and thanks to the copy lock on games tranfering to a new hdd is gonna be hard.

Some games need to be installed to reduce the loading times and to minimize freezes, and yes the patches sticks with the installed data, when you deleted the installation the patch gets deleted also,on the 360 if you dont install the game the console does alot of noise, just like a hoover xD,which makes the console overheat and cause the RRoD

Running a game without a installing it wont cause RRoD.

But does it MERGE with the data or add onto it taking more space? And that is a copy and paste from a 360, what are ya doing DX

It adds more data.

Your copy locked saves and stuff get copied when you use the back-up function on your PS3. I know this because we got a new HD for our older PS3 and used the back-up function and it copied our Demon's Souls save.

I'm looking at youtube videos that show you how to do just that.
I'll let you know how it goes when I get mine done.

UPDATE: One word of caution:BE VERY CAREFUL when unscrewing the 4 screws to the HDD. I stripped two and had to get them out with pliers. 5 minute process turned into a 90 minute process. I had to basically grind the edges just enough so I could get enough grip because it kept slipping.I didn't bother with backing up my stuff, besides my 72 saves of FFXIII. I did that through the XMB, not the Backup utility.

Haha, I totally stripped off two of my screws and couldn't get them out, I ended up ripping the hard drive out of the shield with two screws still attached. Secured the new hard drive with the one remaining screw (the other one got stripped but I managed to get it out) and used electrical tape to keep it steady. Although I had to force the hard drive back into the bay because of the extra width from the electrical tape.
