Proxy server download at 0 bytes
I
I am trying to download Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn for the Wii. My laptop operates on Windows 7. The browser is Firefox. This may be unusual, but I am using a proxy server because I am studying abroad in China, and just about everything is blocked if I don't. I joined Romulation because it's the first site I have seen with this ISO. I don't have a grasp on most technical issues, but I know enough to look up problems and FAQ's. I started the download, had points deducted, and have a 0 byte WinRAR archive file named Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (U)(HaZMaT) in my temp folder. In the forum topic: Download Problems by Seph I see proxies sometimes cause the 403 forbidden error. Is this the most likely answer to my problem? I'd like to thank the Romulation staff for the clear layout of the forum and it's rules. Also I am really exited to explore your catalog when I return to the United states in six weeks.

Yes, that is most likely the issue.
I'm not sure if this would work (probably won't), but you could try configuring IDM with a proxy and then downloading through that.

I'd like to thank you replying to my issue so quickly. I am going to look up how to do that, and hopefully I will see some positive results.(A few minutes later)No luck. I downloaded IDM. It works great, but when I tried to download Radiant Dawn with that it was redirected away from the download because there is already a download in progress. I will try again in an hour. Maybe then the problem will have resolved itself. If it is another user on the same proxy server, and that isn't a bad bet. Otherwise, I may just have to wait six weeks for when I return from China. I am really looking forward to completing this game. I lost interest when I found out that my 3rd party gamecube memory card was incompatible with the Wii, so I wasn't going to get any of the bonuses from playing through Path of Radiance 5 times for a nearly perfect Ike (His magic always sucks, but who cares) and the gold coins. Then I left the Wii behind when I went to college, not a smart idea.

That is possible, but quite unlikely.
If you want to test that theory, try another proxy server and see how that works. But I don't see how it would see as another download in progress, as you're not downloading as a guest and downloads are linked to your account, not IP. Even so, worth a try :)
The truth is, proxy servers don't work with RomUlation, and I don't think you can do much about it.
That being said, someone else might have an idea that could get it working.

That's completely true. I decided to test Romulation.net after turning my proxy server off, and was relieved to find that China's firewall doesn't block it. It goes something like this: 95% of the things you want, any social network, news agency, and to some extent even television no, but the other 5% which includes Romulation.net yes. I have to wait between 2 and twelve hours for the download to finish, but it's worth it. Thanks for telling me about IDM. I had never used it before, but I get the feeling it is going to be something I come to rely on.

Yes, I'm very grateful the site isn't blocked in China as I'm in Shenzhen myself, would suck to always have to use Astrill to access it. As for the proxy server, it should actually work, for members we limit by their account, not their IP.What probably happened is that your VPN cached a bad request and served it up every time. When you turned off the VPN it bypassed it's cache and you could download again.

Not a problem.
It's probably one of the most helpful tools I have ever used. Just runs lightly in the background, managing everything I need.

That's good to know. I'd also like to thank you both again for the fast response times. I thought that with only a 24 hour window to finish the download I was going to have to live with losing those points. Instead I have started playing, and it works. Huzzah!
