Professor Layton: Last Spectre first puzzle stuck in a loop?

When I click 'submit', it just goes back to the puzzle start screen with my solution still entered.I know this topic has been posted about before, but haven't been able to find a working solution. I tried running the Discastia AP patch; on desmume it didn't fix the problem and on no$gba the game blackscreens after the first cutscene.
