Present day games or the old fashioned ones more fun?

I'm talking about present day games with cutscenes and 3D rendering compared to something like Wizardry and the first DQ.Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Re: Present day games or the old fashioned ones better?Definitely present day games. They're a billion times better. The only reason we enjoy older games and still rate them so highly are because our expectations were so low back then, and another important factor would be our good memories as children playing those old games. But yeah, definitely games from today are better.

Re: Present day games or the old fashioned ones better?I agree with you, but present day games have loads of cutscenes. It's like watching a movie instead of actually playing a game.

No, stop playing Heavy Rain or Indigo Prophecy. We have cutscenes because games are actually able to have better stories and better writing then in the past. In the past video game writers were just whoever on the dev team had the best idea, and they weren't really writers. Now we actually have writers to tell the story.
Regardless to how much cutscenes there are (and in most games there isn't that much), it's still a game. MGS4 still had a huge amount of gameplay to it, same with Heavy Rain or Indigo Prophecy (which is like a movie then the gameplay was added later).
I don't see cutscenes as a bad thing, I see it as a way to advancing the medium to higher levels in terms of communicating a story and bettering the writing power behind it.

Re: Present day games or the old fashioned ones better?I don't enjoy games with loads of 3D rendering. I like games like castle crashers or most sidescroller games.

Re: Present day games or the old fashioned ones better?I think older games are more fun but the question is "which are better?"
Newer games have better everything.

Re: Present day games or the old fashioned ones better?Okay. Let me rephrase the title.

Newer games have better everything.
Make that almost everything. A newer game may not necessarily have better gameplay and/or replayability compared to some old games.

There really isn't a true "Better generation of gaming over the other". It's all personal preference.

Also, previous generations tend to apply a bit of Nostalgia Filter to it, with a few exceptions

i think it depends. games like mario, i enjoy the older games, like super mario 3 or super mario world instead of mario galaxy or those games. but i like newer games aswell.
sometimes cutscenes do become anoying though. like metal gear solid 4. its so many cutscenes, you actually get bored of them!

The titles been changed to which is more fun. So Im now saying older games.
Newer games are very complicated, require a lot of time and planning and stuff. Fallout 3 is awesome but you spend a lot of time just walking across the map. It takes ages for the game to get going properly etc.
Older games are simple, you just jump straight in and have fun, mario 3 is a good example.
I know there are some new games that are fun too and simple like older games but mostly they are overlooked for games like fallout, mass effect, final fantasy etc because you get an overall better, longer experience.
I think older games are better for a fun half hour blast.
