Possible Super Typhoon "Megi" coming.
S
MANILA, Philippines - Weather bureau PAGASA continues to monitor a severe tropical storm with international name "Megi."Megi was last spotted more than 1,000 kilometers east of southern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour.Megi is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility around midnight or early Saturday morning.International weather models indicate that it will continue to gain strength as it remains over water and may possibly reach "super typhoon" strength within 24 to 48 hours.Megi was moving north-west, and based on its forecast track, it may make landfall over the eastern coast of the Cagayan-Isabela area by Monday afternoon.PAGASA advised the general public and local disaster risk reduction managers to prepare and take precautionary measures.Fishermen were advised not to venture over the eastern and northern coasts of Luzon, while farmers were advised to monitor weather updates.Travelers were advised not to travel starting on Sunday morning, particularly in landslide prone areas of northern and eastern LuzonMeantime, the weather bureau is also keeping a close watch on another low pressure area estimated at 670 kilometers east of Borongan, eastern Samar.Metro Manila will stay under a mix of sun and clouds with a good chance for light to moderate rainshowers on Friday afternoon and evening. The same is expected for Baguio, Laoag and Subic, as well as Tagaytay and the Bicol region. On the other hand, thick clouds with scattered rains will dampen Cebu, Bacolod and Boracay, as well as the rest of the central islands extending to Davao, Cagayan de Oro and other provinces in the southern region through Sunday.

Let us wish everyone living in Philippines any anywhere which would be affected safety.

It only hit/landed on the northern most parts of the island of Luzon & it registered as a Signal number 4 typhoon which in "panic terms" means "were totally screwed".As far as I know, me, damanali, bhatooth (forgot his new username) XD9999, lotlat & Kamage are either living at the capital (Metro Manila) or at the southern part of Luzon. So we didn't feel the wrath of Megi, whose designated name here was "Juan"EDIT:My mistake, according to the news I just heard over the radio that it hasn't made a landfall yet, but it is estimated to land in the next few hours or so.

Definitely well wishes and Godspeed to those affected, or about to be affected.
I managed to escape Homestead before Andy hit. Had to go get my aunt out of there, and sure enough her home was a hole in the ground afterward.

MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila was placed under public storm signal number 1 by state weather bureau PAGASA Sunday night as typhoon Juan (international name Megi) changed direction as it continued to bear down on Northern Luzon.Storm signal number 4 remains hoisted over Cagayan and Isabela provinces, while Batanes, Calayan, the Babuyan group of islands, Apayao, Kalinga, the Mountain Province, Ifugao, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and Northern Aurora are under signal number 3.locos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union, Benguet, and rest of Aurora were placed under storm signal number 2 while signal number 1 was declared in Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Polillio Island, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Northern Quezon, Metro Manila, and Rizal. The typhoon slightly slowed down as it moves west-southwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. briefing.Animated loops [ loop 1, loop 2 ] of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's satellite shots on the weather disturbance showed Juan moving downward as as it nears land. The typhoon now packs maximum winds of 225 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 260 kph.Its gustiness has been compared by the weather bureau to typhoon Rosing (1995) and Anding (1981). In comparison, the strongest typhoons to ever hit the Philippines has been Reming (2006), which had gusts of up to 320 kph, and Sening (1975), which had gusts of up to 275 kph.More rainPAGASA officer-in-charge Graciano Yumul said the typhoon’s reduced velocity as it nears land means that it will dump more rain over areas that it will hit.The amount of rainfall being carried by the typhoon rose Sunday night to between 50 to 60 millimeters of water, based on the weather bureau’s radar data.Juan was located 280 km east-northeast of Tuguegarao, Cagayan as of 11:00 p.m. Sunday. The typhoon is expected to make landfall over Cagayan province between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 am Monday, and is expected to exit over the western coast of Ilocos Norte by 7:00 p.m.The eye of the typhoon is expected to pass over Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.Under Department of Education (DepEd) regulations, there are no classes in all levels in areas under signal number 4.Those under signal number 3 and 2 will have no classes in the elementary and high school levels, the DepEd rules state.Areas under signal number 1, including Metro Manila, will have no classes in pre-school and kindergarten.Category 5 super typhoonTropical Storm Risk , a London-based company that provides real-time mapping and prediction of tropical cyclones worldwide, said Juan is a category 5 super typhoon, the highest rating. The government has advised up to 7 million people in its direct path to stock up on food and medicine.Government forecasters said waves off the east coast could be greater than 14 meters and advised against travel to the region as the typhoon could bring flash flooding, landslides, and storm surges.People living along the coast, near river banks and low-lying areas in the northern Cagayan and Isabela provinces have started moving to higher grounds, Benito Ramos, head of the national disaster agency, told reporters.Trucks, rubber boats, amphibious vehicles and generators were sent to the north to help in the rescue and relief operations, he added. Schools in the north will be closed on Monday.Yumul called on people to take precautions and stock up on food, fuel and water as well as emergency power because electricity services might be affected."This is a very strong typhoon and we're asking our people to be vigilant," he said, adding strong winds could uproot trees and damage houses made of light materials. "We don't want any casualty." – with a report from Reuters

This is a smart typhoon, it moves in a upper-slanting movement then when it reaches the northern portion of the Philippines, it decided to go west. Its like being controlled.I predicted it last week to continue moving to taiwan due to most typhoons movement, and i was correct that it wont go thru southern tagalog like Ondoy. Well, Manila wont be target that much, and I believe that the northern part of the Philippines would survive with little to no effect as they are built to withstand this type of situation.

Megi and Katrina, why do they always give a beautiful name to such a deadly storm.

Storms, and yes I have been in the bad ones of past, seem to follow no pattern at all.
As was previsouly stated, almost on their own free will.I saw a F-4 head to open water after wasting some houses, as it neared the water, it veered off to the side violently, as if to avoid the water.
It continued for roughly 800 more feet, then just dissipated.Five people died in those houses that got destroyed.
Off hand I was about 8 football length fields away from it.
Power is off the scale. It sounded like a jet on takeoff even from the length away I was,
and the next day I couldn't hear for half of the day from pressurization.
B
i just helped my cousins prepare for the storm and its now getting tested
L
apparently it made landfall and a local official said they'd learnt lessons from past typhoons and were hoping for no fatalities, last I heard there was one suspected fatality.
C
The Areas that were hit hard (Cagayan & Isabela) are two of the country's sources for rice & vegetables & sadly a lot of crops got ruined because of the storm.

Hell yeah, still standing.

I watched something from gmanews about a guy who lost his family during the typhoon. a coconut tree fell on the house killing his entire family. Where was he during the typhoon? He went out to buy cigarettes. He is both lucky and unlcuky. He's lucky to survive but unlucky to lose his entire family in one hit.

Moral of the story:
Though admitted smokers are assholes for not giving shit about the harmful effects Nicotine does to their bodies, it is indeed proven that second hand smokers (their unwilling victims :P) do suffer at the cost of smoker friend, relative, acquaintance etcetera's stupidity.

Nah, the Ivatans are already seasoned Typhoon riders, for lack of a better term. They've been raised to weather the harshest & strongest typhoons so something like this last typhoon do not faze them one bit.

All I can say is, "I wish those people Good Luck and stay dry!"
