"Nostalgia Filter"-"The original is the best BECAUSE it's the first!"
X
For the love of everything that is sane, No matter what franchise, Power Rangers, Pokemon, Ninja Turtles, Gundam, Kingdom Hearts, almost anything whatsoever, there ALWAYS has to be people like this who say the quotation in the title. Is anyone bugged by this? I'm fine and all if they go out of the way to explain why they think so, but to just moronically say the aforementioned quote and the following quotes pisses me off."LMAO these new Power Rangers look like crap! MMPR 4EVER!"
"These new Pokymanz are balls. GB RedBlue is best becuz it's 1st!"
"Modern wrestling sucks! 90's wrestling will never be topped!"Is there a real reason why people act this way other than "precious childhood memories"? It really peeves me to no end that people will defend something that may be flawed compared to new installments, yet they say the new sucks eggs.

Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever
G
It might be because the first game/shows that came out is the start of the popularity of the franchise.
And this was usually becomes the franchise's "Golden Time", especially for the people who experience it at that time.
Which is why they think the sequels are just following and not not as good as the original for them. This is just my opinion though.

I can understand that, but still I question why some people, moronic numbnuts they are, don't even go into to detail as to why they think so. They just robotically say OLD SUPERIOR, NEW INFERIOR.
M
If something is really good, it will stand the test of time and most people will remember it as being the best. Some people are just the "pseudo cult hater" type and don't like anything new, even though is a good thing. Some people like being nostalgic without even knowing what they're talking about. In my personal case, I constantly wish to turn on the Nostalgia filter on a few friends. They always cry for their past schooldays and stuff.

That's because the first Power Rangers and TMNT were better then the recent ones, although i liked the new season of power rangers, with the virus.

There, it's answers like those that get to me. WHY are they better?
Though I give props to you liking Power Rangers RPM.

Because i don't like the idea of the turtles going into the damn internet to fight their enemies? Also, i hate the fact that the newer seasons change shit, like making shredder an Alien that actually lives in the stomach of the shredder, it's stupid.

Wasnt there already a topic like this? IIRC it was better.

1) The original thing introduced a lot of concepts and new technology.
2) The subsequent iterations just build upon those concepts and do not introduced anything revolutionary.Example: Star Wars-i would say by today's standard it is ugly but think about back then. The modern trilogy, while improved in CG still did not introduce anything revolutionary to the franchise or how people do CG. The original did that.Example: Half-Life vs Half-Life 2, Half-Life was absolutely groundbreaking in terms of gun-play, pacing and how it integrates storytelling directly into in-game engine, without any heavy reliance on cut-scenes. Not so many game soon after achieved that.
Half-Life 2 was one of the earliest games to toy with physics, HDR lighting, et cetera. Those things are technological advancement, not revolution in ideas. Hence, if Half-life 2 didn't do that, other games will eventually do it.Note that Technological advancement is not really the same as whole new technology.

Just adding new pokemon without changing the basic premise of the game is an open invitation for nostalgia, that's why everyone says Gold and Silver were the best in the pokemon series, they were the last ones to actually change the basic structure of the game. Why do you think no one really complained about Metroid Prime.
There is a chance that Black and White could break the cycle but I wouldn't count on it.

I disagree, Gold and Silver didn't actually change many game mechanics. Hold Items was the big one, but RSE actually made more adjustments when you look at it. The revamp of the IV/EV systems, new hold items, bag slots etc.
Anyway, that said, I treasure my nostalgia and usually enjoy the games years on since I'm not some faggot who caves to regular "this game was actually terrible" messages. I loved Star Ocean when i was a kid, I love it even more now. Same with Pokemon (although I like the innovations in each generation).

Fuck your shitty american versions, Red/Green is the best.

But the 'red/blue" versions were the same, but with a few changes to the sprites (some looked awful) and from what I heard slight gameplay tweaks.
The japanese basically got the "beta" game.

GAMES LIKE RED DEAD REDEMPTION SUCK. ET FOR ATARI 2600 IS THE BEST.

Regarding Kingdom Hearts 1 vs Kingdom Hearts 2, i want to say, Kingdom Hearts 2 was the game once kept me awake for 18 hours straight. No lie. So in this case the second iteration is better for me.
Although the series is just above average. Once again, for me.

allkratosKingdom Hearts 2 was the game once kept me awoken for 18 hours straight.
I can beat that, on the day final fantasy 7 was released i skipped work and played it till midnight the next day, about 30 hours altogether without the food breaks and a quick dash to buy a memory card.
Its still the best, im not sure if its nostalgia or not..... no final fantasy has done that to me since
G
I like 6 better, but I have my own FF7 story. I had just gotten a Playstation when 7 was released so my cousin and I rented it, I hadn't gotten a memory card yet so he and I stayed up all night playing it and finally got out of Midgar right when we Iwere about to fall asleep from exhaustion. My cousin asked if I would leave my game on all night and I agreed. The next morning I woke up at around six but my cousin didn't, i waited for two hours but he's a very late sleeper so I decided to go ahead and play it. Just as I finished the back story cutscene at the Calm Inn, he woke up. I was speechless, I tried to explain the cutscene to him but just couldn't, so I decided to just start over and show him. Hours later, he was just as speechless as I was.
