http://www.gofanboy.com/home/fanboy-features/2345-nintendo-will-fail-if-they-plan-on-releasing-another-home-consolea really good and insightful article.
why is it only nintendo but for some reason not sony nor microsoft. sony made ps3 and it bombed while nintendo was suppose to be a third party developer by now but they succeed. why are these events only particulary nintendo only but sony and microsoft will never happened. it's something to think about.
D
Yeah i think Nintendo will focus kinda more of a handheld system instead. Since it sad but most people that plays video games these days are totally just sold if the graphics are good. But luckily there are parents who buy things like the "WII" since its more of a family thing. But yeah if they are going to make another home console i think it wouldnt sell that great...
L
PS3 hasnt bombed...
L
PS3 is looking better than ever. I am not quite sure what you mean by it bombed
U
you're right, the ps3 didn't bomb. all the ps2 owners went on to buy ps3. you're right, ps3 didn't bomb. my mistake.
N
Yeah, cause all the N64 owners went on to buy a wii and all the xbox owners went on to buy a 360...
S
As long as Nintendo keeps releasing cheap consoles, then all is okay for them.

So can Nintendo have the same luck twice? It's highly unlikely considering the large footprint that the Xbox brand now has in the US. That doesn't make any sense. Firstly, Nintendo didn't "get lucky", they had a strategy, realised it, marketed it extremely well and it paid off for them. Secondly, the footprint the Xbox has in the US isn't nearly as large as that of the Wii (18 million Wiis sold in North America-as of January 31 2009 compared to 11.6 million Xbox 360s sold-as of October 2008. The Xbox probably sold more units over the Christmas period, but surely not enough to make the gap much narrower. Source.
Add to that North America's recent trend of falling in love with the Playstation brand all over again Increases in PS3 sales would have to surge dramatically before they are even close to how many Xboxes sold in the US; the PS3 is still lagging very far behind the Wii and Nintendo would have to invest a lot in the next home console, and that's just something they're not going to do.Who says that they wouldn't be willing to? The article does nothing to back this claim up. Nintendo has amounted a massive fortune with its incredibly successful recent consoles and software; it's not as if they couldn't afford to invest heavily in a new console.Nintendo has, for years, taken the consumer for granted. On many occassions Nintendo has made it clear that their stance is that the consumer will buy what they make, when business always teaches that you make what the consumer wants to buy.I can't argue here with anything other than that they don't know how to spell "occasions".Nintendo faces a lot of problems if they want to compete with another home console. First off, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 seems to be running its course in terms of the console’s life-cycle. We can likely expect another high-end console from MS announced within two years. That possibility alone stomps out everyone except early adopters of the Wii.How so? What a ridiculous claim. Then when you think about early adopters, Nintendo’s Wii is seeded deep in daycare centers and retirement homes – in addition to many gamer’s closets. So early adoption isn’t something Nintendo can count on to establish a foothold before Microsoft’s next release.Whether they can "establish a foothold" depends on the marketing as well as the release date, something Nintendo excels at. Also; "daycare centres and retirement homes" are hardly strongholds for Micro$oft, surely Nintendo would have a natural advantage over Micro$oft in these places in terms of brand recognition. Then you have Sony’s upcoming Move for the PS3. This new add-on of functionality basically makes the Nintendo Wii pointless and inferior in every respect. Gamers will have an HD high-end machine with all of the options of the Wii, sans Mario and Zelda. No it doesn't. The fact that far fewer people own a PS3 and it isn't seen as a casual gaming console like the wii or recognised by casual gamers as such as well as the far higher price tag make it inferior in many ways. Saying that the PS3 would be everything that the Wii is and more because in will have motion controls and HD graphics would just make a second iteration of the Wii with its own HD capabilities all the more likely to succeed as it would have everything the PS3 has + better brand recognition and reputation in the casual market + more momentum. What this all boils down to is that Nintendo will likely end up being a handheld company only by 2014. Microsoft’s next console will squash any chance the Wii 2 has of getting in homes, thanks to the Playstation Move, driving gamers away from Nintendo’s current home console starting this Fall.A very poorly written article that proves nothing and says nothing intelligent. Text fodder for the weak minded.
EDIT: I bolded(?) some of the text that was actually a quote from the article without realising it. I also didn't bold my opinion on one paragraph. I've now resolved these issues leaving the rest of my post unchanged.

Lol at "Microsoft will release a high-end console."If you can get places like retirement homes and day cares to purchase Wiis that will be used and played with, that means you've got a market there, right? A bigger market is good, isn't it?

ultra · #5you're right, the ps3 didn't bomb. all the ps2 owners went on to buy ps3. you're right, ps3 didn't bomb. my mistake.
i feel that each one of my brain cells must be cringing for each second i read your retarded posts...

Hahaha, that article made me lol hard. Its the same as the guys who used to compare the Ps2 with the N64 or anything like that. Its very "easy" to compare a new generation with a old one. I wanna see if MS and Sony will be able to compete with Nintendo's new console.

Re: \"Nintendo Will Fail if They Plan on Releasing Another Home Console\"nex26 · #6Yeah, cause all the N64 owners went on to buy a wii and all the xbox owners went on to buy a 360...
Most, because the few n64 gamers wanted power, when the cube came out, they still wanted power...thus xbox.
Scent · #7As long as Nintendo keeps releasing cheap consoles, then all is okay for them.
Yes.
It seems that (in my opinion) nintendo did better in the old 8/16bit generations, but when the n64 came around it went up and down...
If not for the massive amount of casual gamers wanting cheaper games (unless it had more features on a ps3 and not just graphics, I'd buy a wii version of said game) the wii would have died early on.
Alot of the user's on gamecube were kids or nintendo fanboys supporting it, the cube sucked sales wise, nintendo finnally got the formula right here...but can they do it again?
I say stop predicting, and watch, it's more fun this way :)
(SHeesh, another nintendo topic-I don't know if your a fanboy ultra or you just want attention!)

As for the why not xbox or sony or whatever...they are still making sales off their consoles (though remour has it sony is loosing money on each console they make while the wii is making a decent profit).
These predictions aren't predictions, just someone sitting back and thinking that it could happen...it spreads fear and it may infact happen because people are being scared by the facts brought up.
Wait and see is what I say, I hate predictions anyway.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
If Nintendo wants to one up the Wii, they'll have to grab the casual market again.
Also ultra, you're digging deep for these dumb editorials. This was probably the worst editorial I've ever read.

It might just be me wearing a duck suit ::)
And yes, they would have to, and it's a big market they have tapped into, there will always be casual players out there.

I'm hoping that you understood what I meant.
What you just described was a prediction. It's a negative prediction, but it's still a prediction.
I predict that a car will enter my house in a couple of minutes and will grab the steak knife in the kitchen (that I should be in by the way) and stab me and my family in the heart a million times, then put us in the trunk, and drive itself in the Red Sea. It's a weird and stupid and bad prediction, but it's still a prediction.

I did, but what I meant was...
I don't believe it.
And remember I'm no better at debates than ultra, this is mear opinion, there will always be causal players, and nintendo will always have a source of people to sell to since casuals lack the money to buy all the latest games (since most would be jobless kids w/stingy parents) and the fact is...there are less hardcores in this world.

they wont do it the wii rocks (its so hackable like i got megaman 10 with DLC (bass and stuff) for free) plus there are awesome games on it

the purpose of this post isn't to say that the article is good. what this post is to say is that there are constant articles about nintendo failing. if it's not this article, there is another article and another. the question is, why is it only focused solely on nintendo. how often do you hear articles of, sony about to leave video games or the next 360 will be more broken then the current one? we don't, but it's important that all articles should be about how nintendo is doomed to die. why not sony or microsoft, but only nintendo?! you're the hardcore and the industry, you tell me.sony bombed and there is no article about sony possibly leaving the video game market or how the next sony playstation console could be the end of sony. ps2 to ps3 surely showed that it didn't bombed btw. but nintendo went from third place to first place and there are articles about nintendo is going to die with their next console. as a matter of fact, nintendo is suppose to be a third party developer by now.

Because your looking only for nintendo based articles, try searching for a sony/xbox one :P
And unlike the dedicated game company nintendo, those companies won't die, they'd live on despite the losses (because they do more than games).
And I cbf'd reading more than 2 lines of your reply, bored me to sleep...speaking of which it's 2am and thank you come again :)
