New here. What is firmwear?

I keep reading alot about firmwear updates. I am new to all of this.
Own a DS Lite with a M3 DS Real card.In basic terms what is firmwear and when do you need to download it?Also ,me friend gave me a system file to get the games working on the ds BUT it is in spanish. Is their another file I can download that will give me the icon/opening menu in english (not sure what it was called but it was a folder with about 200 files in it that was able to get the games to play)Thanks

https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?topic=1462.0Try going here and giving it a read.It may answer your questions-and you might be able to find a english version of the menu/firmware in one of the included links.

That system file is your firmware.

Thanks, can anyone help me out with a link to the most recent firmwear for a M3/Ds Lite?

If you browsed thru it, you'd find a link to what your after. It was the linfox domain site.http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/Look for your card's name here and get it.
