New DS Slot 1 Media Player
1
A new Slot 1 media player is currently in development for the DS. This is not intended to play commercial .nds files but claims to be able to play avi/rmvb/mpeg/divx/mov/flv & mp3 files without conversion! as it uses hardware decoding. It also supports homebrew. You can check it out and mess about with a virtual DS here http://www.dsiplayer.com/Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.

That's pretty awesome! But is it a flashcard or a software install?

It is a flashcard

I'd get that, but only on one condition - we can remove the frame around the video. The DSi has small screens as it is, so I don't really want to have videos smaller still. But great news is that it does quite a lot, so I'll most likely get it anyway.

Would have been very epic if it had come out earlier :P

It looks pretty cool. Might buy one.

Assuming the price is right I do like the sound of this card. It is early days but I am disapointed to hear that on video playback there is no support for internal or external subtitles; perhaps this will be fixed before release also it would seem that there are some problems with sound and video sync. If the people behind this can stay on the legal side, as far as Nintendo are concerned, and iron out the current problems, it may have a bright future.

I agree. This will be able to go very far.

Just a little update on the subtitle issue with this media card, a new firmware means that the iPlayer now supports external .srt(SubRip) subtitles. Good to see that the team behind this have a willingness to develop and refine the card.

I just got one of these, downloaded the latest firmware and it still won't play or display anything other than the iPlayer splash screen.
I have re-downloaded and installed the firmware again with no success.
I have tried on two different DS lites, again with no success.
Nothing on the dsiplayer web site is of any help.
No response from their feedback request either.
From the documentation.
1:Download the iPlayer operation system (OS), unzip and copy into MicroSD.
2:Copy the movie to MicroSD [VIDEO] folder, music to [MUSIC] folder.
3: Turn on the power and enjoy the DS video expert.
In none of the documentation that I have read has mentioned installing any other software but I see that there are Moonshell plugins on the download site. Does Moonshell need to be installed? If not does anybody here have any suggestions to get this to work?
Well at present I am not enjoying the iPlayer, DS Video Expert.

So what you're saying is, that the Flashcard only plays videos and music? Is it compatible for the DSi?
