Morons Who think that Facebook IS EVERYTHING!

Yet another, annoying incident involving people from my past & Facebook rant thread :PThis is kinda related to my previous "People with no conscience" thread. So anyway, there was this n00b (yes I will refer to him as a n00b as that's how he acted during our Facebook chat & you too will get why I called him so as this rant goes on) who PM (private Messaged) me on my Facebook account. Do note that I do not use my real name even on Facebook as I absolutely abhor my birth name, however everyone who do know me personally (including my in real life friends, relatives, College buddies & my Superiors at Uni) do know of my internet name of Cahos Rahne Veloza. So, this n00b PMed me & asked if I was also an Alumnus of our High School & wanted to add me as a friend. As what Alkratos from here on RomUlation experienced first hand, I do not just add anyone as I'm not really into friend hording. Even in real life I'm actually somewhat of a hermit & do not like making new friends. If you want to know why I'm such an anti-social Xenophobe, it's because I had to endure growing up always getting ridiculed & made fun off due to my physical limitations. All those bad experiences had left me to be un-trusting in more deeper & personal levels. But on a forum such as this, people can only judge me by my opinions, thoughts & the way I intereact with everybody which is why I was able to open up as much here than in the real world :(OK, back to my story...I actually do not want to add this guy as a friend as we never really became friends back in high school. To be honest this guy was just one of those fellas you go to class with but never do develop a common bond because you don't share any common interests at all. But, just like every simpleton who has been hooked on Social Networking sites, this guy wants to add every single person he can think of to his profile just to look kewl.So there he was, wanting to know who I was & wanting to add me to his list.As I said, I never liked this guy but because of his insistent begging I gave him a test, one people who actually know me can pass. I asked him something about me that everyone back in high school can remember about me & if he knew the answer I'd add him as a friend. He was able to answer & I added him. Now, as I logged in to Facebook an hour ago he was "on" & he started chatting with me.Now the annoyance begins....Like everyone he knew me from high school he immediately began asking about me, typical dribble, how are you now, what line of work you do?.... stuff that if they think they have an edge over you they will use to even further belittling your worth to everyone else who do know you. And, as I was expecting, he asked me about my two former closest friends, refer to my other rant thread for that bit of detail. So there I was, telling them of stuff I know.... even the darker side of what one of them does. The n00b then commented...n00b: How do you know all of this? You're not even added to them as a frriend?FANTASTIC! Brilliance in all it's glory :PAs if, Facebook is the all knowing source of information you can get about someone :PHe then comments..."How do you know of these information, they don't even speak of it?"Yeah right :PIt's all over the net, you just have to know where & what to look for :PSo I told him "assface's" internet name & told him to Google it.There was silence & he logged off.I decided to go here & post this & as I'm typing (it took me 20 minutes to get to this point) have not yet re-logged into my Facebook account, I wonder what he's done since.Seriously, why do people think Social Networking sites is the world?Even several companies are now looking into Facebook when hiring personnel to look into the applicant's background. It's just another means by which people can be persecuted, by simple seeing what the facebook user puts up or what others put up about him/her.And just a side note, back when Friendster was the "in" thing I did made an account that uses my real name & guess what happened? Only my true friends added me :P Why? it's because everyone in high school were assholes & no one cared :P

Gah, facebook. I only used it to talk with one friend who was the only one I had in my FB contacts, and my account got deleted and my email unusable for a new account. I didn't even do anything besides that.People who see facebook that way are indeed morons, though, but I think i'll add that a few of its admins/mods are probly pretty darn moronic too.

There's actually a back story as to why I even have a Facebook account, that being my cousins were the ones who made it originally. See, they felt I was being a kill joy (or party pooper for those of you who do not know of the expression) seeing they have Facebook accounts while I didn't at the time. So they went & made me one. It got really annoying to the point that I had to "ask" them to give the account password to me so I could "use" it myself. I wasn't really into the Social Networking bit of it mind you as I just liked several games that were hosted on there.

Sadly as I said, a lot of companies nowadays are looking into Facebook to "judge" an applicant or an employee's character based on what they have on their profiles & quite frankly I don't get it. And oh, there was this video I saw on Facebook but I'm not sure if it's on Youtube as well saying that users should be "careful" with whatever they put on their pages because of what I earlier mentioned. And the worse bit is, it even affects one's school life as the video portrayed that schools are now that shallow that any incriminating stuff you have on your facebook account can be used by the school administration to flunk or even expel you from school.

I guess I'm socially dead, I'm not on facebook nor any other social networking site.
And I'm happy with it.

ITT: "bawwww people are shallow and stupid and therefore I'll hate on social networking tools that facilitate the perpetuation of such inferiority despite the tools themselves being ethically neutral"You really need to stop letting things affect you this much, Cahos. According to Yoda, anger leads to... well, I forget, but it ain't good.

Status report on the incident:OK, I just woke up & had logged into Facebook & guess what? That guy who I added was a "Phishing" account, by that what I meant is the person who was supposed to be him was actually not. It turns out it was assface yet again, he made a fake account using somebody else's identity which by internet laws is an act of identity theft just so he can "spy" on me. Well the thing is, I have blocked his Facebook page months ago & the jerk just had to find a way around it.How I found this out is because as I turn on my computer YM is automatically set to run & log me in. I have received ten, yes ten, hate messages on my Facebook account from an unknown source. When I logged into Facebook to check out who the messages came from I found out that it was from a "newly" created account, so it's pretty obvious who it came from.I immediately did the sane thing to do, block said person along with sending a report to facebook about the owner's false identity as well as reporting the phishing account's identity theft.

Every part of this post rings true. In fact Cahos, your response doesn't really justify why you let these things affecting you. If I gave a shit on the net, I'd be posting crap like this all the time, just like you.

Well, it's certainly excellent for spying on people considering how often the dumbasses are willing to just tell you everything about their lives.Makes social engineering a piece of cake.Oh, and if this guy has enough free time to stalk you on facebook, he probably has nothing worth living for. Put a bullet in his head for great justice.

Lol Its kinda ironic how I see this tread right when I log off from FB. Personally, I only use FB to talk to close friends. I do have like 300 ppl on my friend list, but I only talk to like 20 of them. I don't want to be rude and ignore ppls friend request because they went to school with me. And plus social networking beats Messenger and emailing ppl.

I originally made Facebook when I felt left out, where everyone was talking about facebook games like Restaurant City, Mafia Wars and Farmville. I left for a few days, and then suddenly my inbox got jammed with friend requests from people at school.

I use Facebook more to be informed on my favourite bands and organizations rather than listening to my attention-seeking peers drivel about how "bad" their life is, which is why I only have about 50 friends added.

I've never registered to any social networking sites. I just never saw the point. Forums are the only way I communicate online. I don't even bother with PM's unless I absolutely have to speak to a person confidentially about something. I also do not maintain any friend's lists, except for the one forum I'm a mod at. If you saw me in real life and tried to get my attention, I would probably ignore you if I didn't already know who you were. It's nothing personal, I'm just anti-social that way. Heck, I don't even play games online. My point of view on things are so drastically different than everyone else that I just avoid people as opposed to trying to explain myself to them.I have become so disconnected in social interactions that I sometimes worry myself.

I have about 160 people and I chat to all of them if they are online. Theres about 20 family, 20 MMA fighters I know about 50 friends and the rest are school friends and the odd random person.
I prefer facebook to anything else, its so easy to keep in touch with people.

I hate Facebook.
I registered because my friends were so upset (boohoo) that I didn't have one. Next is tons of friend requests from classmates I barely know or care to know about. If I haven't said hi to them in History class, what made them think I'd want to talk to them exclusively on Facebook? And then there's those people who you can't stand in real life who want to be your Facebook friend. I feel like yelling typing "Take a hint! I hate you!"

That's not anti-socialism, that's common sense. Why would you talk to some stranger running at you in the street?

Thanks Nat, that's the kind of Bitch slap I needed to get back to reality :)So an update:Just like with what that guy did here on RomUlation, AND on MySpace AND on Friendster, he apparently sent a bash message to all of my Facebook contacts & as soon as I logged on a few minutes ago, my inbox was full of messages, not of my contacts being concerned with what was derogatorily said about me, but of what kind of asshole the sender was.So yeah, What Nat said was indeed true. That I really shouldn't have given any attention to this prick to begin with.I just wish there is an Agency or Bureau I can go to to have this guy permanently off the internet for Cyber bullying & stalking in this country.
