before the 1900's.. there were a bunch of "judgement days"... it was there like.... every decade or so...
point is... this world will not end any time soon, well it may have already ended for some... you choose the ending, as they say, the world is in your hands..

The Mayans aren't even really "extinct" are they? They still have descendants, even if their empire might not exist.
