http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=75225&provider=topJust read about this... I suppose it's not a surprise with how dangerous the Luge is.. But it still puts into question the facilities and how they're running these new games. Pretty bad considering.

Accidents will happen no matter how careful you are. It's never possible to completely eliminate risk, nor would it be a good idea to. The competitor had chosen to take part in said sport, he knew and accepted the risks as an occupational hazard. As long as all possible mitigating actions had been taken, this was just him getting the loaded chamber. He knew it was a possibility, as did all the competitors, and it just happened to be him, and that run.

Yeah, true. Just felt it's world news and considering I've never seen anyone die in the Olympics myself, this was a shock, but I suppose it was always there on the backgrounds as some of it is extremely dangerous.
L
last death in the (winter) Olympics was the 1964 games in germany I believe. A British luger died during pre-games training, as did a skiier (downhill I think)

I was watching NBC and they deemed it necessary to show his death 3 times in a row on air. That's tasteful.
