Looking to buy an mp3/mp4 player.
F
I'm looking to buy an mp3/mp4 player. I specifically want something quite versatile, and with a reasonable sized screen. I have heard of Rockbox, and it sounds like it would be good for me, but I don't know much about it, or what players you can install it on. If anyone has any experience with it, please share.
If anyone knows of anything that is nice and versatile, or supports Rockbox, please tell me. I doesn't have to be a particularly new design, I'm willing to buy second hand.
Thanks! :D

iriver h3xx series. its a nice player, supports rockbox and you can upgrade it.

Ok, seems good, if a little pricey. Do you have any alternative, cheaper (obviously less advanced) suggestions? Have you used Rockbox? Would you recommend it? Sorry for all the questions.Any other suggestions are welcome too.

I do use rockbox, yes. Its major flaw is it contains bejeweled (the game). I cant get my friend to give me my player back now.

Well, I got a Sandisk Sansa Fuze, and so far it has served me pretty well. There isn't a good Rockbox for the latest models of it though, only older models due to a complete change in hardware and such. I actually haven't checked recently, but it seemed Rockbox production for this type came to a complete halt awhile ago, though I'll check again.

I use this one:

Simple player with TV support and support many formats of audio and video.
Doesn't work with Rockbox so far I know, I don't even know what it is :P
It's quite pricey at that site but you can get it WAY cheaper...I got mine for about €50,-/€70,-.
It includes a cable to connect it to your tv, so if the screen is not big enough :P
(be warned that shocks may occur when using it with the tv, I have expirience :()

I went ahead and looked about Rockbox for my player, and although not considered stable yet with lack of USB support (have to boot original firmware when connected to a computer), it has been vastly improved. There is a version of Rockbox with nearly all functions available at this point too. I'll just have to hope it doesn't brick or something when I try it out.Anyways, even without Rockbox, the Sansa Fuze is a nice player, and I enjoy it far over the iPod I had been using before hand.Edit: I went ahead and installed Rockbox, and it's great. It trumps the old firmware by so much. I still need to grab the .wad file for Doom, but otherwise the rest of it works great.

Ok, sounds great thanks. So for now it's between the iRiver H320 and the Sansa Fuze. The thing is, I really don't need 20GB, so I might go for the Fuze.
Thanks Yoshi, but that's a bit too big and not really practical for my use.
But I'll think about it for a bit longer.
Tanks for all your suggestions people! (not a typo, I wish to offer you large mechanical war machines)
