Linux HTML problem?

I'm thinking about starting a website completely written in HTML. I wrote the homepage in OpenOffice.org Writer on Linux. When I opened it up on Firefox it was COMPLETELY screwed up. I opened it in OpenOffice again and it was fine. Reloading it on Firefox was no help. Since I was using Linux, I tried Rekonq, but it was glitched too. Here are screenshots:OpenOffice:Firefox:Rekonq:I think it had something to do with the fact that I wanted a background (see OpenOffice image). Is this it or not? If you know the problem and how to fix it please post. Thanks for answers, -Error Heaven

you're seeing the reason you don't use a word processor for writing html. text editors work, word processors don't. try using nano or joe instead.
