Linux Distro Recommendation...
I
I want to install Linux on my home computer,
but I'm having trouble choosing...I have some experience using Fedora in college,
but I want to try something different...Desktop should be Gnome preferably, but I don't mind KDE...Ease of use isn't something I'm too worried about
(as long as I don't have to be a genius to do even basic tasks)
but ease of installation is a must for me...(it's my first time :-* )I'm probably going to pick one of Ubuntu, OpenSUSE or Debian...
But if anyone wants suggest something else I will consider...
If you're going to suggest something obscure,
i'd prefer it's supported for a while to come and has a reasonably active userbase ;DAny help appreciated...Edit: Just an update...I'm going to try Linux Mint on Seph's recommendation...
PCLinuxOS has also caught my eye :-\

Suse, or Ubuntu etc. All I know. You can really choose heaps, because most of the distros post you free installation CDS. Like ubuntu.

SuSe or Mandriva. Ubuntu sucks.
I
L
it's just generally not one of the better distributions

Does the same hold true for the many Ubuntu derivatives??
L
I don't know of any, but I imagine so. Ubuntu is derived from something else (I think debian, but don't quote me on that)

Yeah Ubuntu is based on Debian...
There are quite a few Ubuntu derivatives...

Do you have any experience with Slackware or anything based on it??
L
I've used slackware yes, it's not the simplest distribution to set up and use. I quite like it though, I also quite liked turbolinux.

Don't get EduBuntu, It's a school OS xD

Yeah I kind of guessed ;D
I installed Linux Mint...
seems OK...I'll probably stick with it unless I run into trouble...

Use SUSE or Fedora. I have issues with graphics in Ubuntu, and besides that the default theme looks downright shitty. Anyways, if you're going to go with a Ubuntu derivative, go for Linux Mint, which I see you've installed :) .

I tries Linux Mint too and it's really good, Ubuntu just didn't do it for me...

As it turns out i'm using Ubuntu right now and i don't have a problem with it.
