Just one of those months...
R
You know how you all have those days where everything seems to work against you in some way due to some form of shitty luck? The entire month of February thus far has been acting as that one single day thus far. Let me start you off from the beginning. It was a lovely February 1st when this all started. My dear mother informed me that we had insurance to pay on my car this month so I should probably go as easy as possible on what little money I do have. I didn't really have an issue with this since I barely spend money as it is so I just went 'k' and left it at that. Later on in the day when I was leaving school, I find that my driver's side door doesn't open. Perplexed, I checked the other side and it opened thankfully and when I checked the inside of the door that wouldn't open, it just popped right open. This left me with the thought that maybe the outside handle was broken and when I thought this I cringed because I have one of those really funky door handles that's up on the side behind the window and those things are expensive.Later on in that week, my turn signal decided it was going to die on me. This wouldn't really concern me most of the time but there was a rather big influx of state troopers all over the highway I usually use for whatever reason. I didn't really care about why they were there so much as the fact that I knew one of those assholes would undoubtedly pull me over for any little thing they could nail me for. I missed school that day much to my chagrin. Now, I currently have an issue where the old car won't even start now. I'm guessing that lovely bit of cold weather we got probably has something to do with that. So much for going easy on my spending this month. At the rate this is going, I'm gonna need a new fucking car before it's all said and done.Anyways, fuck February.

I feel bad for you. :(

check the battery, the cold weather can cause the battery to lose charge rendering the car unable to start.

cold can damage the cylinders and pipes if the car is poorly made or very old (Finnish weather makes you know those kind of things)

Finally managed to fix the damn thing. The battery went bye-bye so I had to get my old man up to take me out to get a replacement(Pretty much shot any chance of me grabbing Resonance of Fate too dammit). Mind you, the guy that checked it couldn't tell a multimeter from his sandwich so that was an adventure in and of itself that I really don't want to get into.I'm also going to fucking choke whoever designed this car for putting the battery beneath virtually everything else. It should never be that fucking hard to take the damn thing out and put it back in.
M
What car may this be?My lancer gli 2001 has only had a case of a bad battery (baring music-engine off=waste of power) and just some "new driver" dints XD...while this may not help, try giving the car (or the next one if you bother) try warming it up as well, to prolong engine life span...don't mind me throwing something unrelated to.I always tell that to people with trouble some cars :)
M
So...
You won't consider buying a new car?
R
It's not that I wouldn't consider it, it's just that I have no way to afford one at this time. I'm barely scraping by as it is. =/I'm gonna need to work up some money for a new one eventually however. Car has over 170,000 miles on it now and I while I'm hoping it'll last long enough for me to get through school, I don't have my hopes up.Oh, and for those curious: http://www.edmunds.com/pictures/VEHICLE/1996/Oldsmobile/1673/1996.oldsmobile.cutlasssupreme.8686-396x249.jpgThat's what it looks like.

thats a nice car, looks better than my volvo 240 (cant remember the date offhand, its probably older than that though).

Lurk more, fail less, and the answers to all your problems will come to you.

Obviously reider's one is alot worse than the pic, that's an new looking model-reider's one would have "aged" a bit by the sounds of the car issues.
I wouldn't mind a car like that, but that model I've never seen here in australia...
And those km's...it's alot less than the ones my friend drive on, where's I'm not even on the 95,000km mark just yet.
$13,000 what I paid in AUD, that's the price of something that won't go "clunk" XD

Not at all. The body is probably about the only thing on it that still looks as pretty as it was the day I got it. It's covered in dirt at the moment but beyond that, it's body is all nice and smooth. :)
It's definitely getting old though. That model is a '96 so that'd be 14 years old or so right now.

Still a preety car, but engione wise is the problem I take it...
96 ain't a bad year, one of the cars I was originally gonna buy was a 96 model of the lancer I own now...but it seems the milige is way up higher than what I'd want (70,000 was the set limit-I was forced to get a car 16,000 more just because it was impossible :( ).
I seen far older cars still roaming around, like my father's 197x -8x (that is the year-forgot if 80 or 70's) chrysler sigma (they made a mitsubishi version of it).
It's got a restored engine, except for the floor which has no carpeting, roof material falling in and just small cases of rust here and there, the car is perfect-and dad can fix these faults himself...he just has more important things to do.
Funny how he stopped everything when the original engine died on him and he spent his time trying to fix it only to end up buying a reconditioned engine, he also stopped on the body work when he got that thing :P

So, today my car has decided in it's infinite wisdom that it wants to die again. We're looking at the fuel pump as the cause this time and I highly doubt I'm gonna be able to pay to fix that.Fuck my life.

Dang, that sucks...
Prehaps it's wise to sell it for scrap and look into these options...
1.Buy another P.O.S car that will last just enough until you get the money you need for a decent car
2.Get one of those "$99 per week" deal cars and just speed up the payements when you can to insure nothing happens...
3.Scam/nag your parents or friends to loan you some cash
4.Public transport is always an option :)
I saw a nice looking Holden SS, it's a v8 engine, and it's $7,500AUD, it has 187,000kms, and it's in decent shape...of course importing to america and converting it (unless you can get a permit to drive it the other way around like we do here) may cost...
I'd have got it, but I like my car's tiny fuel requirement even though this car has more value for money (my car was 100,000 less km's, but this car has the same features...and it's faster XD)
