I need assurance.

I'm really considering now on getting a real DS so I just need assurance that these are the only things I need to get it going (and your personal opinion of the product wouldn't hurt either)Kingston SDcard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134478Flashcart - http://www.gamersection.ca/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=27&products_id=372Now besides the DS itself, these are the only two things I need?-TeK

You mean for emulation? Yep, that's it (goood choice on the flashcard, too, by the way), but you might want to check the compatibility with the games you're going to use it for first, just in case. I found a pretty good list through Google, but I don't think I should link to it...I'll say first, though, that most of the problems are just no download play, so if you're going to be playing single player and avoid the big games like Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, then you should be fine.

As long as the other site doesn't serve ROMs then you can safely link to it.An alternative to the Kingston MicroSD would be a SanDisk MicroSD, those are, if possible, even faster.

Should I go for SanDisk...because those are considerably more expensive then the Kingston. SanDisk 2GB is practically 40$. While Kingston's 2GB is like 25$. I don't need a huge amount of space really, since I'll be deleting most of the games once I finish them...I just want to be able to play the roms I get.Is there a really huge difference between them? And for cfiniris, I don't understand what you mean...I'm not planning to do anything complicated..like play online or anything like that, I just intend on playing single player games like pokemon....elite beat agents, stuff like that.My main questions is if with these 2 products I picked out I'll be pretty much set? I plan on buying the R4 in the store anyway..I just needed to make sure that's what it was and what the package is supposed to contain.Hopefully I'm being clear enough.-TeK

(SanDisk might be faster, but they're also quite a bit more expensive outside of eBay.)Oh, okay. This is what I was talking about. The main problems with the R4, as far as I've seen, is a lack of support for Download Play. If that isn't a problem for you, xHaiTeKx,...yes, you'll be just fine with those.

Not sure where you live at, but the SanDisk and PNY 2 gb SDs are only $19.99 at my local Wal-mart in the USA.

You wont be able to play GBA games, or homebrew that requires extra RAM. If you wanted that, you would want to get something like the M3 Perfect Lite. If you don't care about that stuff, then you are good to go.

I have an emulator for GBA( I probably won't play GBA roms anyway) and I don't even know what homebrew is...I have an idea of what it is and I'm damn sure I don't do those. As far as that list goes...it's huge as hell, and I didn't find the Pokemon Diamond or Pearl games on that list(not the USA versions anyway) so what does that mean? From what I can tell besides those two games all the other roms I plan on using seems to be fully compatible. To Darkman: I live in Connecticut(doesn't it say it under my name?) and oddly enough, all the stores either don't have it or have it at some 50 dollar price or higher. Actually, now that I look deeper online I can't seem to find the R4 or the M3 at any retail store and newegg seems to be the only place with the SD cards and reasonable prices..Are you able to buy an R4 or M3 at your local retail store or am I going to have to order it online..? I already checked Bestbuy, Circuit city, Walmart...nothing.-TeK

The reason SanDisk is better is that they have a fast read/write speed. Some games, especially Castlevania PoR can freeze during gameplay. I don't know if it will happen to Kingston or not.Edit: R4 and M3 can't be bought at a retail store, there are cards which does not include firmware that enables piracy so those are often sold instead.

Alright, that's what I needed to know, I'll just buy the flashcart from that website...from the reviews I read on the site from other customers it appears that the site is reliable and very fast with shipping. Now all I need to do is find a DS for cheap. :) Most likely it will be used but as long as it works I really don't care...I'm such a bargain hunter. 8)EDIT: I just remembered something, doesn't MusicAddict have a Kingston SDcard? I haven't heard him complain about it....in fact, I think that's probably the reason I went with Kingston in the first place lol.EDIT #2: What's a USB Transflash? I just read this in that R4DS tutorial and I have no idea what it means..is it another name for SD card reader or something?(I'm referring to the above link BTW)-TeK

Castlevania is NOT a game I will be playing, I can guarantee you that..so that game not being compatible isn't my concern. And, in case it was missed in my last edit what's a USB Transflash? I'm hoping it's just another name for something, I'm just wondering if this USB Transflash comes with the R4 package.-TeK

Pokemon Diamond (U) and Pokemon Pearl (U) ARE indeed in that list I linked to. They work, but the PBR connection doesn't (specifically, "Wii connection doesn't work"). Also on the same topic, it says on there that Kingston Japanese 1GB works just fine with Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Seph. You can find a normal DS for about $50-70, depending on condition, and DS Lite is reliable enough to find at around $100. ...If you call that cheap. As for your second edit...the USB Transflash is just the USB dongle that comes with the R4 package and you use to put your DS roms onto your MicroSD card.Sorry for not posting sooner. That took a while to type.

Oh no..you answered rather quickly, thanks for that. You answered my remaining questions. It's weird though, I just did a CTRL+F on that wiki page and it didn't find Diamond or Pearl lol, but like I said...I won't be going online so I don't care about that..just as long as I can play the game.I already got a deal on a used DS from a friend of mine (55 or 60$) so I'm set. This whole ordeal is going to cost me approx. 120$ minimum which isn't even one day's pay for me. AWESOME! I should have all of these doofiddles by sometime next week..should be fun, thanks for your help guys.-TeK

I only said I was slow because you slipped that post in while I was typing my reply up. Just for future reference, next time you want to look up a game on that list, try searching for its ROM number instead of the name. It's a LOT easier that way, especially since they're ordered numerically.Anyway...congratulations on getting your hands on a DS (especially if that happens to be of the Lite variation), and good luck!!

The DS's library doesn't impress me in any way shape or form. But that's not to say that there aren't those few games that I would be interested in playing. Off the top of my head and I can mention like 2 or 3 DS games that I would like to play. On top of that playing DS isn't going to be a habit, it's going to be a hobby. It's for when I'm on one of my two half hour lunch breaks at work...and for when I have no demanding jobs and I don't wanna sit around doing nothing.2 or 3 games won't fill up 2 GB lol...I don't think they even fill 1GB? Either way I'm thinking of just buying the DS and one fulfilling game and then buying the SDcard and Flashcarts later on, I've been getting insanely bored at certain times at work and in this heat it's doubly insane. I'm not in a big hurry to play roms so I just figure buy the game I want and the DS for real and then get the other stuff like a week later.-TeK

If you want to spend a little extra, you should purchase the CycloDS. It's by far the best slot-1 device, and (I'm pretty sure) it boots GBA code.Also... and this is the big thing... it supports MicroSDHC (SD High Capacity), a new form of MicroSd which supports a massive 32 GB.All the features of the R4DS firmware 1.11 are also included with it - full support for download play, and auto-DLDI patching.Did I mention that you can put 32 GIGABYTES of NDS and GBA ROMs on it, plus homebrew and music?

I have an R4DS with a 2Gb SanDisk MicroSD card.Never had any problems with any ROM ever. And they just released new firmware 5 days ago making all 1200 or so currently available ROMs compatible.Never had to trim a ROM. Never had to change a clean dump in any way with an R4DS and my 2Gb SanDisk MicroSD. I got it as a package for 80 Aus dollars. Which is like 50-60 US dollars? Inc. Shipping.

For sure you should get a CycloDS Evolution, if you can spend the extra cash - they do cost a little more than the R4 or G6. They can't however run GBA code without a slot 2 cart - no slot 1 device can natively (and I'm pretty sure they can't run it through the use of homebrew either as from what I know there isn't a working GBA emulator for the DS). The CycloDS has frequent updates with new features as well as 100% support for all released games (including online and download play) and if, by chance, a game is found to not work if you inform them on their forums they try to incorporate it into the next update.EDIT:Sorry for posting on an older topic, just wanted to make sure no one bought the Cyclo because they thought it could emulate GBA roms out of the box.And also, I wasn't 100% that there wasn't a slot 1 GBA emu for the DS so I did some Google-ing and didn't find anything but claims without any backup so for now I stand by that, but I could be wrong - wouldn't be the first time :P
