Last month my iMac tipped over my desk and the 750GB hard drive shit the bed. I was very upset because I had not made a recent backup of my data and everything was lost. Family pictures, lots (trust me, lots) of software was lost, high-school and college essays, everything was corrupted in that split second. I contacted some memory restoring agencies and said they could recover the data using a process that broke the hard drive down referred to as sectoring. They explained to me that my hard drive would be taken into a sterile environment, with only highly filtered air in the room and every person is in special suites and wears gloves so there is no contamination. They then would take apart the drive and rip the data from the pieces. After that is done, the data would be reassembled and shipped back to me with a bill. Most of the quotes were from 700 to 1000 USD to recover the data. I do not have a choice, so it sucks, I need to get my memories back - I cannot put a price on those. Any way, take it from me, buy an external hard drive and back up everything or else you will end up with nothing like me.
