I want to upgrade my laptop's video card from 64MB to 128MB<, but my dad tells me that most cards are for desktops and that getting to the video card on a laptop would involve a complete transfer of the motherboard or somesuch thing. is this accurate and what should I do if this is true?

Re: I know almost nothing about computers and I don't know where else to ask thiWell, your dad is right. Most video cards you can buy are for desktops only. Some laptops have a special slot for laptop video cards called MXM. I've googled and found this site. Maybe it's of any use to you:

very few laptops have upgradable video, however, if your laptop video card uses 'shared memory' then you might be able to allocate more memory to the video system.

that doesn't help him or her much since they might need the speed, which memory can't help much and may need a newer card to support the newer features.

Re: I know almost nothing about computers and I don't know where else to ask thior they may just need a video chip with dedicated memory, as shared memory ones are much slower, to the point of slowing down an otherwise high end laptop.Newbie1234: either post here or PM me with your laptop make and model, I will see what I can find out.
