Fallout 3 has stopped working Error

So im running Fallout 3 on Win7 home premium and every time i start up the game and load a file it crashes and it says "fallout 3 has stopped working" Sometimes it goes further but eventually it also crashes.
ALSO ( i dont know weather this is relevant) when i start the game up it says "windows has changed the colour sceme to basic"

Try reinstalling, The colour scheme change basically means that its changing from 32bit colour to 16bit or from 64bit to 32bit (Just a guess as I don't have a 64bit computer)

I tried but it still does it. What about compatibility mode?

I had this problem, but I cant remember what I had to do to fix it.

So you fixed it somehow? Ill start Google'ing

whatever you do, DONT install the operation anchorage DLC, its horribly buggy.

definitely worth trying the patch, the ffdshow fix has never worked/been relevant for me.

thanks, i fixed it. I set the water multisampling to low and it worked.
