2: The clean mode! What is the mode?Well this is all quote from the ez flash forum!
@SvenDub it is very similar to a feature the earlier EZ5 models had (but with a few twists)Broadly speaking your flash cart works because it emulates how an original game works as far as the DS is concerned. That is to say if the DS requests some data the flash cart will translate this into an SD card read and send it back again in a format the DS understands.Antipiracy works because this emulation is not flawless- things get patched for saving (the original EZ5 models actually emulated the save rather than changing the way the game saves- it works very well on those carts to this day (indeed it is often why people will be able to run unpatched games with AP on it) but it was dropped in favour of editing the game when the original R4 took off in a big way and people wanted "drag and drop" without having to use savelists), for hacks, for cheats, for soft reset and so on*.It was time to create this guys! I am curious about the update! :)
Clean modes traditionally aim to run without these extras and so dodging the checks on the game code some AP methods employ. Obviously games will still need to be patched eventually but this does provide a way for games to run (arguably the most important thing) before then.*this is probably where the speed settings come in- if the game has to be patched it is on the EZ5 to do it (drag and drop remember) and this takes time (not much but on the scale of data flowing about enough to be noticeable) and these options can skip things and do things to reduce this time penalty.Additionally another AP method that should be counteracted by this update is to try and read below 8000h on the rom- on an original game this will simply return the data as follows:
""Can be used only for addresses 8000h and up, smaller addresses will be silently redirected to address "8000h+(addr AND 1FFh)"."
from http://nocash.emubase.de/gbatek.htm#dscartridgeprotocol under "B7aaaaaaaa000000h (200h) - Get Data"
For those wondering the header is loaded to the ram as part of "bootup" so there is no need to use this command to access the header.
Back on topic many flash carts will not emulate this behaviour properly/at all and then you have a flash cart detection method.
It gets somewhat more involved than this but as a broad strokes that is what happens.
