Emailing security

I'm adding you guys to my list of web admins that don't understand that email is not secure. It's unfortunately a very long list. Just FYI - it is NOT a good idea to send passwords via email. Sure I can change it to something else, but you shouldn't have emailed it to me in the first place - and users who also don't understand that email is not in any way secure won't realize that they SHOULD change it. Good thing I didn't give you guys any credit card info or other sensitive data.

Just curious how else you would prefer a password for an account be sent to you? Snail Mail maybe? Then anyone with hands (and eyes) could read it! But really, the security of your email account is up to you. It is common practice for forum account passwords to be sent via email during registration and during password recovery. You should make sure to register with email accounts that you don't share if you don't wish others to have access to your forum accounts. Your "list" must be getting pretty long these days.Romulation doesn't store or even ask for any sensitive data about you, so there's no reason to worry about stuff like credit card numbers being exposed.

Maybe sending passwords "telepathically" to members would be more secure.Loony-take note

funnily enough, we do understand that email isn't secure. We didn't make SMF, or did that not occur to you? Also if you'd paid any attention at all you'd know paypal handles credit card transactions for us.

Seeing as OP changed said email address and as such, isn't currently active anymore, I'm just going to lock this for the time.

Just for the record, PayPal is perfectly safe.
