UFC 2010 Undisputed's online mode lockedTHQ latest publisher to use premium one-time code to encourage purchases of new games; buyers of used copies of MMA game will have to pay $5 for access.Last week, Electronic Arts made the controversial announcement that all its sports games will require a one-time code to unlock their online modes. The practice, which effectively adds $10 to the price of used games, begins next month with the launch of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. During an earnings call yesterday, French publisher Ubisoft said it would likely adopt a similar policy to reap revenue from used game sales, which currently do not benefit publishers directly.
Ok, I understand they need money even from second hand buyers but...Charging for online usage, this will hurt 360 owners more!I believe in gaming with friends something that MUST be free, but now with this HD crap, it only (in most cases) allow one person per consle, for MP matches it must be done online...This is one of many reasons why I became a ps3 user, to play online for free...but with this, if EA/THQ made games I'd enjoy with MP, I'd say "screw you guys"!...this might hurt you sport fans more though.

What are you complaining about? you get a one time use code, in which, if you decide to buy, you might as well have gotten a new copy (it'd be more for EA, since their's is 10$).It's free if you buy the game new, you're not paying extra, it comes with the game.

I for one don't play sports games (akk!) nor online and never have so either way (personally) this doesn't bother me, but on the other hand if this bleeds off to other genre of games then I can see some turmoil arising almost looks like a ploy for a push to purchase new games instead of used. :o

And that is why they will lose al respect by gamers for charging an additional price alongside xbox live, internet, etc. So it's their loss really.

Maybe they are just trying to get some money for a certain kind of players that doesn't pay anything at all.

It's more or less aimed at those who buy games second hand...with the charges from places like eb games, your only paying a few bucks cheaper...and this is like a slap in the face to those who (like me) like free online gaming.

Soon it would extend to all users, sen vs mode in re5?You had to pay for that add on, sure co-op was built in but...My point is they'll charge everyone, heck I heard nintendo are thinking the same, apparently (confirm me if wrong) nintendo charge people in japan to play monster hunter tri, and might consider the service else where...This is a blow for people like me who have large collections of second hand games, just because they wanted to save money.

That's a different scenario, the versus in RE5 wasn't packaged with a new copy. They have been charging players in Japan to play Monster Hunter since the first one, it's Capcom, not Nintendo. And no they haven't, they've implemented this pay for feature since Dragon Age if they wanted to make you pay for it (for everyone) they would've done it a while ago. You could argue that PC gaming has been like this for a long time. You needed to buy the game new to play online (pirated servers aren't that popular and they aren't any where as good as legit ones). On average, used newer games are five dollars cheaper than buying a new copy, that's not a lot of money saved and it's all going to whatever store you're buying it, not the developer/publisher. I like this because single player games will come with more add-ons (to entice the long term player), and because there's some free DLC instead of no free DLC. I bet if Capcom implemented this, they would've had versus in RE5 for free.
