Atlus unveiled the first details today behind Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, a new title in their occult-themed RPG series and the first wholly original one in the main line since Nocturne back five years ago. The new game, a 3D dungeon-exploring RPG, is slated to come out for the Nintendo DS on October 8 over in Japan.Set in the early 21st century, Strange Journey takes the SMT series in a markedly sci-fi direction. A mysterious dimension has opened itself up over the South Pole, rapidly expanding and threatening to swallow up the entire planet if something's not done. You, a Japanese special-forces soldier, are charged with joining a multi-national team as they don special "Demonica Suits" and explore the eerie space -- which, it turns out, is packed with demons and monsters, both real and from old fairy tales.Gameplay details are still scant, but Strange Journey diverges from the Persona style of Atlus RPGs and harkens back to SMT's dungeon-crawl roots. Like in the other games, you'll both be fighting demons and negotiating in order to recruit them for your side; you'll also be able to fuse them together to try and form more powerful creatures. There are over 300 monsters slated to appear in the game, from old series standbys to brand-new demons drawn by series director Kazuma Kaneko.

No one got in trouble though...I mean, I'm an asshole but I"m not so cruel that I'd tear into someone for making an honest mistake. =/Anyways, that's enough derailment from me. Peace out girlscouts.

uh... okay...
anyway... new update from Joystiq via Famitsu...
As usual, a new game countdown site was beaten by leaked Famitsu scans. We already knew that Atlus's new game was called Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey from information found on the site itself. New scans reveal that Strange Journey is a new first-person RPG (like Etrian Odyssey) for DS.The game, which uses some demon art from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for some of its three hundred plus demons, follows explorers of a new demon-filled dimension that has opened up in the South Pole. Players wear upgradable "Demonica Suits" like the one above, which is kind of awesome. The new game will be out in Japan on October 8.[Via NeoGAF]
http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/shin-megami-tensei-strange-journey-is-a-first-person-rpg-for-ds/I don't really like dungeon games very much, it's much too repetitive, I love Chocobo Dungeon and its alike though. If this game has somewhat high counter rate and bad storyline like Etrian Odyssey, I won't play it for very long.

Update! This is the first video from Joystiq. Anyone have watched this? I can't stream videos, it takes days to finish.
Are you done with Devil Survivor, and dying to get your DS Shin Megami Tensei on? Atlus has released a trailer and some gameplay footage of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. The first-person RPG combines Etrian Odyssey-style dungeon exploring with classic Shin Megami Tensei creatures and some sci-fi elements. We've embedded the trailer up here so you can get a look at the totally dramatic setting. After the break, see a couple of gameplay videos that are guaranteed to make you nostalgic for vintage Shin Megami Tensei, unless you never played any of those, in which case we don't really have a guarantee.

Yeah, too bad the trailer doesn't feature the gamplay. I'm a little worried about this.Edit: Youtube actually has 4 videos:
- The trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOQ3S2oZfNE
- Name input screen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X8-KkJ8QSk
- System01 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaYege3mip4
- system02 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5OhNcL73zIThey're pretty interesting actually, but I still have my worries.

Hopefully it is something like devil survivor

It isn't. While Devil Survivor pretty much a tactical game, STM: Strange Journey is dungeon based. The demons and the battle system seems similar though.
