Yes, Im chinese. And yes, that is chinese superstition. A long with a lot of other things like wear bright colours on New Year and stuff.

A lot of superstitions actually.Staying up late on the eve as a sign of long life for your elders, not sweeping your porch/house, and of course, not washing your hair (which I don't think anyone follows.)Its pretty sad that my friends who are currently studying overseas don't get a week off for this :P
