then no. You can't put an AM3 processor in an AM2 board.

LoonylionMotherboard is a nice choice, however there are two important things I need to point out. One is the black heatsink to the left of the cpu socket, the other is the ram slots being very close to the CPU cooler bracket. While these are not bad things per se, they do need taking into consideration when you are choosing a CPU cooler, as the height of the ram modules/heatsink could obstruct some coolers. This is not a particularly unusual situation but it's often overlooked.Excellent choice on the processor, its one I'd choose myself oh wait, I didCase wise both are nice, both are very well known brands that pay close attention to thermal management. I'm a bit disappointed that theres no picture of the inside of the coolermaster, but it shouldnt matter. Both come with front and back fans, the coolermaster also has a top fan. I think it's probably personal choice on this. I've had coolermaster cases before (my stacker 810 is awesome), but silverstone have a very good reputation as well. It might be worth noting that the silverstone mounts the PSU at the top (the traditional location), while the coolermaster mounts it at the bottom (I think for physical stability), which can lead to issues with cables not being long enough, however there are extension cables readily available if needed.
so what's a similar Motherboard that has almost the same specs without that failure? and also..could you help me pick good coolers(CPU and fans), cuz i want it to be as silent as possible, without a chance of overheating... -.-"

it's not a reason to discount the board. It just means you need to be careful when choosing the cooler. It's quite a common problem, if its not a northbridge cooler its capacitors, if its not capacitors its MOSFETs , if its not those its RAM. What we do now is choose your ram, then once we know the height of the ram modules we know what kind of clearance we need for the cooler. For RAM look at G-Skill, Geil or Mushkin (they arent easy to find but they're the best manufacturers).

soo...i believe the motherboard/CPU uses DDR3, so how many RAM sticks will it hold? i'll search around in the meantime...
hmmm....will the following work?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226063&cm_re=DDR3-_-20-226-063-_-Product
L
it will hold 4 sticks, and it is dual channel, meaning ram must be installed in pairs of identical modules.
T
okay...so i guess that means i have to have either 2/4 sticks...can't use 3...*searches newegg again*i guess this could work...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226072&cm_re=DDR3-_-20-226-072-_-Product
L
yes those will work. You need to find out how tall they are.

i can't find the height anywhere..
L
not even on the mushkin site?
T

just checked the mushkin site...no luck..
L
found it: 99.88mm x 69.63mm x 9.3mmSo we need a CPU cooler with at least 75-80mm clearance between the thermal surface and the bottom fins.
T
(i think i've said this multiple times...)i don't really understand the noise ratings...could you help me pick a fan that is silent(or just about) and won't permit overheating?
L
maybe this will help:

T
So..... That means I want one for 20-30 DB....found a fan that's silent... ^_^will it keep it cool though?...http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2258
L
it doesnt have sufficient clearance for the ram.
T
will one of these work?...http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2248http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2417
L
the scyth doesn't have enough clearance and I don't think the iceage will cool very well.
U
Loony how did you get so smart? O_o you seem to know everything.

Loonylion · #38the scyth doesn't have enough clearance and I don't think the iceage will cool very well.
well...guess what....we got the money, but my dad won't get a debit card for the checking account T_T_T_T_T_T_T_T so how the hell can i buy any of this stuff if i can't get it online?!?! T_T_T_T
