AOE II: Age of Kings Multiplayer (online) help

Me and my cousin both have AOE: II AOK (god, I love abbreviations) and we want to play with eachother online. Neither of us have ever played it online before, so we haven't a clue how to do so. Could someone please explain how it is done to me? Thanks!
