3DS tracks and disables pirate cartridge use
A
Apparently illegal flash cartridges are already in circulation in Japan, variants on the infamous R4 cartridge for the Nintendo DS. These allow pirates to download 3DS games via their PC, put them on the flash cart and then play them as if they were a normal game - but no longer. After sporadic reports 3DS consoles were becoming unusable after a flash cartridge was played on them, Japanese retailer Enterking put the following warning up on its website - as (roughly) translated by GoNintendo:'In case if you use equipment which is illegal or unapproved by Nintendo or if you do customisation which is unapproved by Nintendo, there is a possibility that Nintendo 3DS become non-bootable by system update.'In other words if you use pirated software and hardware Nintendo will disable your console via a firmware update (otherwise known as 'bricking').This will no doubt cause pirates and Nintendo to enter into an endless game of hacks and updates but it does seem that the 3DS is going to be a lot harder to run pirate games on than the DS was.

Well if it can even update when turned off (IDK), just don't take it anywhere, as well as no Wifi at home.

That's when it's in sleep mode that it can update.

Meh, in that case no 3ds for me. I don't feel like dealing with all that bullshit.A nice dsi will suit me just fine. But in a couple of years I'll proably buy a used 3ds and a 3ds flash card.

Won't new games force-update the 3DS anyway?

Yes they do.
This is soo great news! :D

Great news?
On which side are you?Anyway, this AP thing will be cracked, no matter what.
And they'll find ways to prevent our 3DS's from bricking.

I'm not bothered about not being able to download 3DS games, but I've got all my DS games on my Acekard and since I plan on trading my DSi XL in to help fund my 3DS purchase I'm a little worried... I've heard that Nintendo forces you to agree to a contract when you start the machine up. Is it true?
A
Damn. How'll the hackers get past this one? This one seems to be a helluva lot harder this time around :o

Oh man this sucks and im the say way as well all my games are on my acekard so if i cant use my acekard this is mad bs. Then again it could also mean that a update can brick your 3ds just like how updates can brick a moded wii. I guess im going to have to not sell my ds -.-.
